Tom is throwing a birthday party for Matt tonight. Around 2pm, Gabby calls Mandy on her cell.
"Hey, Mandy, are you going to Tom's tonight for Matt's birthday party?" she asks.
"Sure, of course I'm going. Tom's last party was a blast. Plus, it's Matt's birthday. We *have* to go," Mandy replies.
"Oh, good. Hey, I'm having a hard time figuring out what I should wear. Do you want to come up so you can tell me if the stuff I'm picking out is looking okay?"
"It's only 2pm! You're already getting dressed? The party starts at 6pm. I'm not coming back home until 5:00pm. Why don't you come down around then and we can find you something," Mandy suggested.
"Oh, okay. See you then."
Mandy makes it back home a little before 5:00pm. At 5:00pm sharp, Gabby's at the door. The girl has a serious problem with punctuality. Mandy opens the door and lets her in.
"Hey Gabby," Mandy greets her.
"Hi Mandy," Gabby gives her a friendly smile.
After everything that happened when they were living together, they felt a little awkward around each other at first, but now it seems like a million years ago and water under the bridge. They're best friends again and neither of them ever mentions what happened while Mandy was broken up with her boyfriend and Gabby's boyfriend was half way around the world.
Mandy grins back and walks down the hallway to her room while Gabby closes the door behind her before following.
"So how come you're suddenly having a fashion crisis just before Tom's party?" Mandy wonders.
Gabby thinks about it a little bit. "I don't know, I've been so busy looking for a place and getting organized now that Justin and I are living together, that I haven't gone shopping in forever," she explains.
Mandy grimaces. This whole business of Gabby and Justin getting engaged and moving in together makes her feel slightly queasy and a little jealous even. She suspects she's being childishly competitive, but she can't help it. Sometimes when the gang is hanging out and Justin's all over Gabby, she wishes she could act like her cat. She would show her teeth, and snarl: get off, my Gabby, mine. Of course she doesn't do it but the little fantasy is quite helpful.
Mandy goes to her closet and opens it. She pulls out a few tops she thinks would look good, holds them up against Gabby to get a better idea of how they would work. If she likes them they go on a pile on the bed, otherwise they go back into the closet.
Then she walks away to let Gabby try out some stuff and make her own selection. When she climbs on the bed, she disturbs the kitties who stretch in discontent. She sits back against the headboard, and they come back to lie next to her, one under each arm. She pets both of them and they purr in unison.
Meanwhile Gabby is getting down to the serious business of picking out an outfit. She takes off her top and tries out a couple of different ones. Mandy nods and makes appropriate noises, but she's really just enjoying watching Gabby get semi naked as she tries on various tops. She has a simple white bra on and matching underwear. Her skin has taken on a golden tan over the summer as she spent more time at the beach. Her stomach is slightly rounded, just enough to make Mandy want to blow a raspberry on it like she used to do to her little baby cousin's tummy. The baby would laugh delightedly every time she did it and never got tired of it. She'd really like to make Gabby laugh like that.
"Hey, since Justin's out of town do you want to go to Tom's together?" she asks.
Gabby looks up at her. They often used to go to show functions as each other's dates and act like girlfriends all evening long. All in the name of getting into their characters, of course. But recently, Gabby's relationship has been getting more serious so they haven't done it in a while.
She's about to say yes, but first she checks "Aren't you going with Kel?"
"Nah, why would I go with him when I can go with you?" Mandy replies as if it was a no-brainer.
Gabby smiles. She walks to the bed and sits on the edge, looking at her friend. Sometimes the brunette seems to be channeling her character on the show, except that she's a lot sweeter and all kinds of adorable. The kitten leaves Mandy's side and gets closer to Gabby, bumping its head against her hand, asking to be petted.
"That top looks great on you," Mandy states approvingly. One of the best things about it is that it doesn't leave a lot to the imagination. In fact it's barely more than a bikini top. Gabby was a bit skeptical before she put it on, but Mandy's appreciative gaze must mean it's looking alright. Impulsively she leans in to press her lips firmly against the brunette's. Then she's standing again, walking back out of the room. She stops at the threshold.
"I'll be back in 15 minutes and we can get going okay?"
Mandy nods her head in a daze. A whole evening of Gabby flirting with her is probably going to kill her, but she's already looking forward to it.
