Chapter 4: It's in your kiss
Clay followed his girlfriend through the kitchen to the living room which was dominated by a huge fireplace on one side and a big screen TV on the other. A large, sectional couch was located in the middle, not quite close enough to either. The room was beautifully arranged, but didn't seem designed for livability. They settled on the carpeted floor in front of the TV.
"Um...so how is rooming with Spence and Ashley working out?" Clay asked. He hadn't seen Spencer laughing this freely in a long time. Ashley always seemed to be in some kind of trouble at school. Her refusal to accept the social pecking order had made her a bit of an outcast. He wasn't quite sure what to think about the girl. Chelsea was pretty level-headed, so he was curious about what she'd say.
"Oh, it's fine," Chelsea assured him, "I don't know Ashley very well, but she's okay. She's a bit out there and seems to have a pretty complicated life, but she doesn't go out of her way to make other people miserable, you know? "
"Yeah. Not like Madison. She's like, scary, " Clay agreed, standing up to retrieve the remote control, "I tried to talk to Glen about her, but he doesn't want to hear anything. Well, I'm not letting him talk me out of being friends with Sean either, so I guess that's fair," he admitted.
"I actually kind of like Ashley. She's fun. And Spence has her pretty whipped," Chelsea mused with a grin.
"Good. I was wondering whether it was going to be too weird for you," Clay explained, "I'm not sure why my Mom dislikes Ashley so much. Mom's been so great with me. But when she has an idea about someone, it's really hard to change her mind. I hope things get better between her and Ashley, for Spence's sake," he continued, flipping through channels.
"She's probably just freaked out by the whole concept of Spencer being in a relationship at all. My parents are really cool, but I could tell it took them a lot to adjust to my first boyfriend. Once they realized it wasn't going to change who I was or my priorities, they calmed down a lot," Chelsea looked dubiously at the TV when Clay stopped on a rerun of the X-files, "I hope this isn't one of the ones with scary gross stuff in it."
----------------------------------------------------
Spencer leaned into the brunette, who was too upset to return the kiss but wasn't pulling away either. Slipping one hand just under the hem of Ashley's shirt, Spencer's fingertips brushed the soft skin of her girlfriend's stomach. Her other hand snaked up to the side of brunette's face, keeping her in place, all the while she kept sucking on the girl's tempting bottom lip.
Ashley couldn't help herself, it just felt so good to be in Spencer's arms, touching her and being touched by her. The brunette's eyelids slowly came down half way as she gave up her resistance and yielded entrance into her mouth to the blonde.
Sensing her girlfriend's helpless surrender, Spencer felt overcome by a wave of love and protectiveness. She gently deepened the kiss, gradually pushing the smaller girl back to the bed to settle on top of her.
She felt the sharp edge of the picture frame separating them and removed the obstacle from the brunette's unresisting fingers, never breaking the kiss in the process. Ashley slipped her now free hands under Spencer's shirt, making small comforting circles on her back, content to let the blonde have the initiative.
For a moment, nothing existed but the soft exchange of lips and tongues exploring and mapping wet and warm territory, until they were light headed and out of breath.
When Spencer pulled back, the brunette's eyes opened slowly, revealing for once completely unguarded brown orbs. Spencer couldn't resist softly kissing her girlfriend's slightly open lips again.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" she finally asked, "I wish I had known that little girl in the picture, so that I could have been here for you when your parents split up," she confided.
Looking into her girlfriend's clear blue gaze, Ashley felt completely loved and safe. She smiled up at her, charmed all over again by the blonde's sweetness. "You're here now, that's all that matters."

Chapter 5: First Snow
After much argument, Spencer got the brunette to agree to leave the picture on the nightstand, by promising not to use it to ruin her girlfriend's hard-earned bad ass reputation.
Once that was settled, the girls went downstairs hand in hand, to join Clay and Chelsea who were lounging on the floor in front of the TV. Clay was watching an old episode of the X-files, while Chelsea was doodling next to him.
"Is that a giant worm trying to get inside Scully's back?" Ashley asked, after watching for a few seconds.
Chelsea looked up at Spencer, zeroing in on the girls' clasped hands. The blonde followed her gaze, flashing a smile to thank Chelsea for giving them some time alone.
"It's not a worm, it's an alien," Clay explained, gesturing at the TV.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Ashley scoffed.
Spencer peered at Chelsea's doodle. It showed a giant snowman standing in front of a cabin very much like the one they were in right now. Spencer gave her a thumbs up sign and glanced out the large window at the snow surrounding the cabin, "let's go outside to play in the snow," she exclaimed enthusiastically.
"I'm in!" Chelsea seconded, jumping to her feet.
The minute they were outside, Chelsea, Ashley and Spencer ran into the snow to start playing. Clay said he'd join later, when the TV show was over.
"Wow, there's so much snow, it's amazing! Let's make a snowman!" Spencer suggested to her compadres.
The three of them began gathering snow for their creation. Pretty soon, Spencer was kneeling in the snow, intently pushing a little ball of snow around in the white powder covering the ground. It slowly gathered snow as it rolled, increasing in size.
Ashley stopped her haphazard efforts to look at the other girl's progress. The blonde's snowball kept growing impressively in size. Once in a while, Spencer would shape the giant snowball it to make it more round, and pack the snow, before she kept going. The girl had it down to a science. Ashley had now ceased all activity, instead concentrating on watching the blonde.
It was a perfect day, the pure, azure blue of the sky and the sun hitting on the bright snow made everything seem livelier, all the colors more vivid. After the constant chaos and noise of L.A., the silence and utter stillness outside the cabin was almost eerie.
The only movement Ashley could see was Spencer packing snow with her gloved hands, blonde hair flying around her head as she moved. Her eyes squinted a little from the sun, combined with the most adorable, studious look on her face.
Thinking about everything that Spencer had brought in her life in the few months since they'd first met, the brunette couldn't remember a time when she'd been this happy. Nothing else and nobody else had ever meant this much. She knew the same was true for the other girl. There was this amazing connection between them. No matter what, even when they had misunderstandings or disagreements, neither of them could ignore it.
"What do you think? Pretty good, eh?" Spencer asked, stepping back to admire her handiwork.
"Beautiful," Ashley agreed as she stood up, pressing herself against the other girl's back and engulfing Spencer in her arms. The blonde smiled when she felt her girlfriend's arms surrounding her.
"Well, I wouldn't go that far," Spencer protested a little, turning her head to see the brunette's expression.
"Oh, I would," Ashley beamed, leaning in to brush a kiss on the blonde's lips, "hmmm, and delicious too," she added.
"Knock it off, you two," Chelsea yelled as she went by them to put the head of the snowman on top of the body.
Clay finally came out of the house. Since he had his digital camera, he spent the next few minutes taking pictures of the girls making funny faces in front of their snowman.
Then Spencer started looking around for some stones and bits of branches to use for the snowman's eyes, nose and mouth.
"Hey this stuff is cold," Chelsea rubbed her hands together, "the glove thing is probably a good idea."
"Yes, it is," Ashley replied seriously, crouching down to gather a little bit of snow. "Kind of useful too. To do...this," she turned to Spencer, dropped the snow on her head and stepped out of harm's way, laughing.
Spencer squealed at the cold sensation of the snow sliding down her neck. She turned to her girlfriend with a disbelieving look on her face.
Clay took this opportunity to throw a snowball towards Chelsea, who let out a high-pitched scream even though the snowball didn't get anywhere close to her. She immediately went down to gather up some snow so she could retaliate.
---------------------------------
"Why did you do that?" Spencer asked, snowball in hand, advancing on the brunette, "say you're sorry."
Ashley shook her head, still laughing. "I'm not sorry, you had it coming," she reminded her girlfriend.
"Oh, is that right?" Spencer asked in a sing song voice, getting closer to her target.
"Yes, you so had it coming, so there," Ashley stuck her tongue out at the blonde to give the proper emphasis to her statement.
At the sight of Ashley's tongue, Spencer began chasing after the other girl. The laughing brunette ran ahead up the hill. She realized pretty soon that it was a tactical mistake, so she cut across behind the cabin looking for the right spot to make her stand.
Seeing that she had gained quite a bit of ground, Spencer stopped to throw her snowball, hoping to slow down the brunette and catch up with her. The ball hit Ashley's back with enough force that she turned around to face Spencer. The blonde kept running, tackling the smaller girl to the snow-covered ground.
"I win," The blonde panted," say you're sorry." The brunette eyed her mischievously, trying to catch her breath.
"I'm very sorry that you had it coming," Ashley said finally, laughing, completely unrepentant.
"Oh yeah?" Spencer dared her, holding down the smaller girl while she gathered some snow in her hands.
Seeing what the blonde was up to, Ashley stopped laughing and started sitting up to try and dislodge her. Spencer immediately replaced her hands to keep the other girl under her control.
"Give it up, Sweetie, I've got two brothers I used to fight with all the time. I can take you any time I want," Spencer declared smugly.
A stubborn glint came into the slight brunette's eyes at those words. Uh, oh , Spencer thought as Ashley started rocking to gain some momentum and used those amazing abs of hers to lever herself out from under Spencer, rolling them over until she was on top.
Crouching over the disoriented blonde, Ashley trapped her hands on the ground, preventing the other girl from getting away.
"I win," she said with a victorious grin, "but you're right…you can take me any time you want," she smirked.
-------------------------------------
Chelsea's first snowball caught Clay smack in the middle of his chest and the second one hit his back.
"Okay, you win!" Clay held up his hands and gave his girlfriend his patented crooked grin, hoping she was going to take pity on him and cease hostilities.
"Woohoo! I won," Chelsea performed a little victory dance, which Clay watched appreciatively.
A car turned on the road leading from base camp up to the cabin. Chelsea peered at the road, and announced, "The fun's just starting. Glen and Madison are finally here."
Clay turned to look towards the direction the other girls had disappeared just in time to see them walking back down the slope towards the house.
"Hmmm, why do I have a bad feeling we're going to end up in the middle of this?" he asked.

i definatly think spence needs to give it up to ash! i mean come on, they are in a cabin in the woods! how romantic!
:LOL! I agree Spence should give it up to Ash soon. The problem is that after I started the fic, I realized that in order to make it possible for the two of them to go off without the rents, I'd put them in a situation where they essentially have no privacy :(. So fluff for now and maybe smut in another story or a sequel. Hope you enjoy anyways :)
