Chapter 10: Girl Talk

Spencer looked at her girlfriend's cranky expression, then at Chelsea who was barely hiding her amusement and wondered what had transpired earlier between the two girls.

Chelsea contemplated the brunette's rapidly darkening face for a few seconds, "Okay, I guess you've got a point there," she admitted, passing the teddy bear to Spencer to give it to Ashley. The blonde accepted Mr. Bongo, holding him in front of her for a few seconds to check him out.

The brunette stuck her hand out for her bear like she meant business. Spencer smiled sweetly before handing over the object of the current controversy.
"Just wanted to see who my competition is."

Ashley grabbed her bear with a contented smile, holding it close, "Thanks," she said graciously, settling down with satisfaction on her pillow, "he's not your competition though. I can have a teddy bear and a girlfriend, it's not an either/or," she clarified cheerfully. Spencer gazed at her, thinking to herself that the brunette cuddling happily with her bear was quite possibly the cutest thing she'd ever seen.

"I see. Is that how it works?" she asked, extending a hand to push away a strand of dark hair that had fallen across the brunette's eye, "and what if I wanted to cuddle also?"

"I'm a little bit like a girl scout that way: always prepared," Ashley beamed winningly, transferring Mr. Bongo to her other side and looking at Spencer hopefully.

"God, shoot me now!" Chelsea's incredulous voice stopped the blonde's response, "Is this how it's going to be the whole week? I don't know whether I'm going to be able to take it, you two. I'm turning the light off now, so do whatever you have to do, but I don't want to hear it, capice?" she warned, trying to sound as stern as she could, as the room plunged back into darkness.

Spencer laid down quickly on the brunette's unoccupied shoulder. Ashley put an arm around the blonde to draw her closer. Closing her eyes, Spencer took a deep breath as she settled against her girlfriend's warmth, the comforting feel of the slender body pressing against hers filling her senses.

"Sorry, Chelsea. So tell us, how are things with you and Clay?" Spencer sounded genuinely apologetic, "We hardly see each other anymore at home. It's nice that we were able to hang out today".
As she was talking, one of her hands found its way under Ashley's T-shirt. Soon it was wandering all over the soft warm skin of the brunette's stomach. Her ear, next to Ashley's throat, picked up an almost inaudible, involuntary hum. Spencer smiled, resting her open palm over the brunette's heart. She loved knowing that she could affect the older girl that way.

Oh, she's good, Ashley thought to herself admiringly, realizing she was completely at the mercy of her girlfriend. The brunette knew she was in big trouble, and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it.

"Things are good. I like Clay a lot, he's really sweet. We're just hanging out you know," Chelsea replied easily.

"That's cool. Clay never had a steady girlfriend in Ohio. I should tell him he needs to invite you over for dinner so that we can chill. Plus we need more girls at home other than Madison." Spencer sighed as she thought of her so far unsuccessful attempts to gain acceptance for Ashley from her mother.

There had been an uneasy truce since her mother had come back home after spending a couple of nights away. How was it possible that Madison, the underhanded slut from hell, was in her mother's good graces, while Ashley, who was trying so hard to behave when she visited, was on the black list? Glen and Madison had practically had sex in front of the house a few times even and she had the pictures to prove it. Spencer had no idea where to begin to unravel that mystery.

"You know, I have two sisters. It's hard for me to imagine how it would be at home if I was the only girl. It must suck," Chelsea commiserated.

"It's not all bad. It's nice to have big brothers who look out for you at school. But things have been different since we've moved. I used to be very close to my mom. Now she's at work all the time. Whenever she's home, she always seems stressed out. The only thing she talks about anymore is what I have to do to get into a good college. I miss my mom," Spencer's voice started to shake. She fell quiet while she fought back the tears that were springing to her eyes. Feeling the trembling body in her arms, Ashley held her closer, pressing a soft, comforting kiss into her temple.

"That's tough. I'm sure things'll get better when she sees that you're doing great in school," Chelsea said, trying to cheer her up.

The next morning, Spencer was awakened by the light streaming in through the window shutters. Reluctant to open her eyes, she was pulling on the corner of her pillow in order to put it on her head, when she heard the soft creaking of the wooden stairs under hurried footsteps. She cracked her eyes open only to see long brown hair disappearing down the stairs. Madison! What had the cheerleader been doing in their room?

The blonde pushed herself up to survey the room. Chelsea was sleeping on her side, facing away. Ashley was lying on her back, one arm still around her teddy bear, her other arm above her head, her face relaxed and open in sleep.

She heard voices downstairs, which she recognized as being Madison's and Glen's. Checking her watch, she noticed that it was already nine o'clock. Probably time to get out of bed and in the shower so that they could go snowboarding. Her movements must have disturbed the other occupants of the bed because both of them started to move around.

Ashley turned towards her, putting her bear on her head, and tried to further escape the sun by hiding her face against Spencer, while Chelsea drew up the covers over her head.

"Ash, we should wake up, it's already nine o'clock," the blonde whispered, putting a hand on her girlfriend's head to pet her hair and encourage her to wake up. That did the trick.

"What? Nine o'clock? Jack's going to be here any minute," Ashley sat up, suddenly fully awake.

Spencer went downstairs while the other two girls were taking turns in the shower. Glen was in the kitchen talking to Madison, while Clay was opening and closing cupboards, looking for the makings of coffee.

"Hey you guys, what's up?" Spencer asked, getting a diet coke out of the fridge and offering it to Clay. Her brother shook his head, so she popped it open. The blonde rested an elbow on one of the pinkish granite covered counters as she drank her soda slowly. Madison and Glen were sitting at the breakfast counter apparently engaged in boy girl flirting. Clay finally gave up on coffee and poured himself orange juice from the fridge instead.

The kitchen was spacious and inviting, with a center island large enough to double as a breakfast table. The stainless steel appliances looked like you could have used them to cook for a small restaurant. "Madison, were you looking for something earlier?" Spencer asked casually.

"Mom called to ask if we were settled and everything. She wanted to talk to you, so Madison went to see if you were awake," Glen answered for the cheerleader, "Mom's not too happy by the way. Madison told her that the three of you were sleeping upstairs. She almost blew a gasket when she found out that you are sharing a room with Ashley," he continued.

"What?" Spencer was beginning to panic, "Glen…" she couldn't believe that her brother had let Madison blab to their mom without giving her a chance to explain. She gave her brother a look of betrayal.

"Don't worry, I talked to her. She calmed down after I explained everything," Glen looked at his upset sister uneasily. Then his eyes went to Madison who was wearing a well practiced look of concern on her face. He knew he shouldn't have let Madison answer the phone.

A little relieved at Glen's words, Spencer nonetheless shook her head in disappointment, "Now mom's going to be on the war path when we get back, and it's going to be impossible to have a normal discussion," she sighed, "I wasn't expecting any better from Madison, but you're my brother." Unfortunately, with Madison around, this wasn't a great time to have a real talk with Glen. Spencer didn't want to give the other girl a chance to weigh in on that discussion, so she resigned herself to let it go for now.

Ashley, alerted by the serious tone of the voices coming from the kitchen had been eavesdropping from the top of the stairs. Sitting on the top step hugging her knees, she had become very pale. Chelsea sat next to her, putting an arm around her shoulders.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Ashley ran down to let Jack into the house.

Thanks for the comment. Sorry about the lack of R rated GOGA. I doesn't flow as readily as the mindless fluff. I may write some in the future but not right this minute. Check out What I meant to say by LooseChng09 that I rec'd from the SpencerAshley Forum. Not fluffy but awesome.
